The best protection is prevention. As Mr. Miyagi said, "we learn how to fight so that we don't have to." Sure, you may still have to fight, but your first priority should always be to avoid it. The sad truth is we are rarely taught that side of it. We need to be learning how to avoid and prevent violence, defeat it with our minds and voices but also learn techniques so you can protect yourself against a violent attack.
The women's self-defense course is a free two-day class designed to teach women of all ages and skill levels personal self-defense. Based on statistics and professional knowledge, most confrontations will end up on the ground, leaving you needing to know how to survive in a ground fighting situation. Therefore, the Auburn Police Department reached out to Twin Tigers Jiu-jitsu in Winder, GA to assist with teaching this class.
Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art based on grappling and ground fighting, focusing on the skill of controlling one's opponent or attacker through techniques that force him or her to submit. It prides itself being known as the "gentle art". Allowing a smaller, weaker person to use leverage and submissions (chokes, locks) to defend himself against a bigger opponent.
This class is taught by police officers and members of the Twin Tiger's staff. This is a hands-on class taught in a safe, fun, friendly, and controlled environment. All the instructors and assistants have gone through background checks conducted by the police department. Like the first few words of this article says, the best protection is prevention. Our primary goal at this class is to teach you simple, effective techniques that could potentially save your life. However, we also teach you situational awareness techniques and inform you of the most recent "scams or attacks" that unfortunately people have fallen victim to.
