About Auburn
Old Southern Charm with a Vision for the Future
Auburn was established in 1892 and got its name because of the red clay in certain places of the City that was used to dye cloth auburn-red. We love our history and we exemplify the beauty and serenity of Northern Georgia.

Parks and Recreation
Auburn offers these five beautiful parks:
  • James Shackelford Memorial Park, (Green-space park, with walking trails, camping, pavilions, and the beauty of the Appallachee River)
  • Roy E. Parks Children’s Playground
  • R.H. Burel Park
  • Whistle-Stop Park
  • Parks Family Sports Complex, (Currently in the expansion stage)

We Are Very Involved As a Community
Auburn has planned green spaces with a great mix of residential homes, town houses, and apartments, both commercial and industrial. We proudly encompass two Counties, Gwinnett and Barrow.  Auburn is accessible by highways 316, 324, 211, and 29/8. We are a community that is very involved and we are always planning something.

A Progressive City For Your Family and Business To Call Home
We have developed a Downtown Overlay District and a Downtown Development Authority. These efforts will further capture the beauty and feel of a small town while allowing for planned growth in the heart of Auburn. With a new Library, renovation and expansion of City Hall, new Council Chambers, and a new Community Center, we are well on the way to making sure Auburn is the place where people want to live, work, and play.
